i was raised by a single mother. she never made more than $42,000 a year. she’s a bag of contradictions, a drunk, a stickler for honesty, an excellent sex educator, and an even better seamstress. she went to planned parenthood for a tubal ligation when i was about 11 and she taught me that planned parenthood was a safe and trustworthy health care source. she was right. planned parenthood is the ONLY place I have ever received reproductive health care services of any kind during my adult life. thank god, too, because i went to a jesuit university that doesn’t provide that kind of care for non-pregnant women. planned parenthood saves lives and serves the poor. they care for men and women and boys and girls, *including pediatric care.* they protect their patients first and themselves second. they are doing god’s work.
